MEPs Saskia Bricmont, José Manuel García-Margallo y Marfil, Sylvie Guillaume and Javier Nart, would like to invite you to an expert webinar about the situation of EU citizens in Syria, in collaboration with Save the Children and Rights & Security International, on 15 March from 9.00 to 11.00 GMT.
Since the fall of Daesh in Baghouz in Syria in 2019, several hundred EU citizens are currently held in camps in North-East Syria under Kurds control. Most of those people are children under 12 years old. The discussion will aim at explaining the state of play of repatriations by Member States and current humanitarian and security situation in the Al-Hol and Al-Roj camps. While some Member States have been organising repatriation of their citizens, some other show strong reluctance. We will discuss with experts and stakeholders what are the good practices in Europe and what can be done to ensure fundamental rights and security concerns are addressed.
