Rights & Security International (RSI) promotes human rights and fights discrimination in the context of national security. For over three decades, initially in Northern Ireland and now globally, we have successfully advocated for human rights and accountability for abuses, holding governments to account for racism and other harms committed in the name of ‘security’. Our vision is of a world that recognises that recognises that communities are stronger, and all people—especially those who have historically faced discrimination—are safer, when governments fully respect everyone’s rights and freedoms.
We use our legal and policy expertise, in partnership with other civil society groups globally, to address cutting-edge issues – including national security laws that shut down social justice movements, harmful measures that restrict immigration and citizenship on ‘security’ grounds, and excessive secrecy that prevents victims of abuses from obtaining justice.
RSI carries out its work through innovative research, strategic litigation, collective action with partners, and advocacy at the domestic, regional and international levels. Our work exposes new facts, helps create important reforms and justice for individuals, and consistently informs the positions of the UN, governments and other influential bodies.
We are seeking internship candidates with a wide range of legal interests and backgrounds to work with us remotely on a range of human rights legal and policy matters. Please specify in your application which areas of our work interest you the most and why:
**This internship will be remote. RSI will not sponsor UK visas in 2022.**
To apply, please email a copy of your CV and a covering letter not exceeding two pages explaining why you meet the requirements for the internship to email@example.com. Please use the subject line ‘Legal Internship – US’.
RSI strives to be diverse, equitable and inclusive. We treat interns like team members and encourage everyone to bring their full selves to work. We particularly encourage applications from candidates from groups that have historically been underrepresented in the human rights, legal or policy fields, and/or who are from communities that have been directly impacted by human rights harms related to national security policies. All applications are considered on an equal-opportunity basis.
We offer flexible working hours.
By submitting your application, you consent to our processing and retention of your personal data to the extent, and for the time period, necessary to consider the application. We will keep your application on file for no more than six months.
